- Only closed-toed athletic shoes with non-marking soles are permitted.
- Hanging on the rim is not permitted. Dunking is not permitted.
- Participants must refrain from the deliberate abuse of the walls, doors, ceilings, equipment, etc. by kicking or striking with any type of equipment or object.
- Disassembling or moving equipment that has been set up is not permitted. Contact Building Supervisor or Custodian with questions.
- Do not leave any items on or near court areas. Personal belongings should not be left unattended. Any items left on the court will be confiscated and removed.
- Violations of any gymnasium court rule may result in immediate ejection from the facility
- Patrons must use an alcohol provider from the Southern Illinois University list of approved caterers who hold a current liquor license for alcoholic beverage service and must complete the Request for use of Alcoholic Beverages form located at https://eforms.siu.edu/ siuforms/info/vca0101.php. The completed form must be submitted to the Recreational Sports and Services Assistant Director of Facilities, no later than 3 weeks prior to the event date.
- All state and local laws are in effect and will be enforced for service of alcoholic beverages at all Recreational Sports and Services facilities.
- Liquor licensees are required to provide a certificate of dram shop liability insurance listing Southern Illinois University as additionally insured for the specific event including date and time or an annual blanket. This must be received no later than 14 business days before the scheduled event to avoid the cancellation of the reservation.
Nonalcoholic beverages must be available at the event and are required to be a Pepsi product. - Participants may not bring or provide their own alcoholic beverage to any event, except as approved by the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs.
- Alcoholic beverages are not to be served or provided to persons under 21 years of age.
- Alcoholic beverages are not to be served or provided to a person who appears to be intoxicated, inebriated, or impaired due to alcohol consumption.
- The service of alcoholic beverages is only allowed between the following timeframes: Monday through Saturday: 8:00 am-1:00 am and Sundays: 11:00 am-1:00 am.
- Alcoholic beverages may only be served and must remain in space(s) rented - NO ALCOHOL OUTSIDE OF BUILDING. (Except on the outdoor patio at Becker Pavilion). Lessee and alcohol provider shall be jointly responsible for enforcement.
- All beverage sales (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) may be subject to a beverage surcharge.
- In the case where Recreational Sports and Services deems it necessary, the lessee will be required to pay for an SIU Department of Public Safety officer to monitor the event.
- Alcohol can only be served at events where food of substance is provided.
- Open Bar/Cash Bar Procedures:
- Patrons cannot serve themselves, only an employee of the alcohol provider may serve alcoholic beverages
- No more than 2 drinks per person at a time
- No selling, delivering, or offering drinks by the pitcher.
- Recreational Sports and Services reserves the right to terminate the serving of alcohol at any time during the event.
- All procedures for service of alcoholic beverages will be strictly enforced by Recreational Sports and Services staff. Failure to follow procedures will result in removal from the approved alcohol provider list and may result in the submission of violations to the City of Carbondale’s Liquor Control Commission.

- FREE Watercraft check-out is available to enrolled SIUC students and Current Rec Center Members only. No community members can participate in checking-out boats for free.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older). Children must be at least 30 lbs to use watercraft.
- Fishing is permitted from the boats as well as the shoreline only. Fishing is not permitted from the Boat Dock.
- Swimming or wading anywhere in the lake is prohibited.
- Only University-owned watercraft are permitted on the lake.
- No one may dock any boat anywhere other than the boat dock, including on the shore.
- Splashing or unnecessary horseplay is prohibited.
- Standing or changing positions in the boats is not permitted while on the lake.
- RSS-provided PFDs must be worn by each person at all times while in a boat.
- Intentionally tipping a boat is prohibited.
- Swimming from a boat is not permitted.
- Boats are not permitted under the drive bridge at the southwest end of the lake.
- Pets are not permitted in boats.
- Alcohol /Smoking/ Tobacco products/Vaping are not permitted. SIUC is a Tobacco-free campus.
- IDs will be held if any violation of these rules occurs.
- All climbers must complete a waiver & assumption of risk form before climbing. If under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign these forms. Wall climbing and bouldering are inherently dangerous. Climb at your own risk. RSS reserves the right to remove all climbing privileges from anyone that does not follow rules and policies. Proper use of required equipment is mandatory.
- The Climbing Wall/Bouldering Cave is to be used only during listed hours and may be reserved for groups.
- All participants must check in at Outdoor Pursuits Rental Cage or the RSS front desk before climbing.
- Climbers must be at least 18 years of age to belay.
- Climbers must be at least 6 years of age to climb.
- All minors 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult. A parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver for the participant.
- Adults may not leave minors unattended at the climbing facility or bouldering cave unless specialty programs provide supervision (i.e. birthday parties, school groups, etc.).
- Climbing wall or bouldering cave participants 17 years of age or younger must wear a helmet
- In order to belay, participants must pass a belay proficiency test without aid or instruction from staff.
- All RSS staff members reserve the right to inspect participant equipment for safety concerns.
- Bouldering is not permitted above marked height. All body parts must remain below this height.
- Any participants wishing to climb above the bouldering height must be roped and belayed by a proficient belayer.
- All climbers must be tied into the rope with a figure-eight follow-through knot and use a finishing knot.
- Lead climbing is not permitted, unless during an organizing lead climbing event.
- Inform staff of any situation seen as unsafe or not in accordance with the Safety Policies.
- All accidents or equipment damage must be reported immediately.
- Harnesses must be doubled-backed at the waist and leg loop buckles when worn by the climber and belayer while climbing on ropes.
- No personal belay devices are permitted. No personal assisted braking belay devices are permitted.
- All belay devices must be checked out from the climbing facilities desk. Belay devices must be attached to the belay loop on the harness of the belayer by means of a locking carabiner.
- Proper footwear is required on the climbing wall at all times (i.e. closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes).
- No climbing on the accessory cord.
- Do not attempt to climb in excess of your abilities.
- Do not climb under other climbers.
- No chewing gum, eating, or drinking is permitted in the climbing facility area. Only water bottles are permitted. No jewelry is to be worn by any climber.
- NO HORSEPLAY and NO ROUGH-HOUSING on or near the walls.
- Only current RSS staff is permitted to instruct at the Wall/Bouldering Areas.
- Only authorized personnel are permitted to set routes and perform maintenance on the climbing walls.
- Before climbing, always check that mats are touching and there are no spaces between them and between them and the wall.
- Always keep personal items off the mats.
- Use spotters when bouldering.
- The individual(s) that is listed as the contact person will serve as the representative in charge of the group and their actions. It is the responsibility of the person listed to make sure that a designee must be named and that person must be communicated to the Reservations Department within 24 hours of the event.
- Reservation requests will be reviewed in the order they are received. RSS Programs, SIU student groups/organizations receive first priority.
- A completed reservation form must be on file with RSS before any event will be approved.
- Reservation requests must be completed at least 14 calendar days prior to the day of the event or by special request approval by the Assistant Director of Facilities.
- Student groups must provide a final participant count and schedule a group contact meeting no later than 7 calendar days prior to the event. Failure to schedule a meeting 7 calendar days prior to the event will result in the cancellation of the event/program.
- Groups of more than 60 participants will need special approval. Authorization to approve large groups rests with the Assistant Director of Facilities or his/her designee.
- Student Groups with 50 or more persons must have prior written approval from the Department of Public Safety submitted to the Reservation Department 7 calendar days prior to the event. Failure to follow this procedure will result in the cancellation of the event.
- Cancellation Policy
Failure to notify the RSS of event cancellations may result in a loss of building privileges and/or the assessment of appropriate fees. Cancellations must be made by calling 618-453-1277 or by emailing schedule@siu.edu. The email must be sent from the individual listed as the contact. Business hours are from 8:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To receive a full refund, an event must be canceled 14 calendar days prior to the event. To receive a 50% refund, an event must be canceled 7 calendar days prior to the event. Groups that do not show for a confirmed event will incur 100% of the rental costs. - Recreational Sports and Services will staff each private event with an appropriate number of participants. Special staffing, specifically game officials, must be arranged when making the reservation. Extra fees for staff may vary depending on the number of staff members that are needed for your specific group (number of participants).
- Student groups must have approval from Student Development and must be submitted to the Student Recreation Center Reservation Department 14 calendar days prior to the event.
- Outside groups scheduling an event with the Student Recreation Center must provide a certificate of insurance naming the Board of Trustees as an additional insured. Please visit this site for further details: http://siusystem.edu/risk-management/
- Damages
Organizations reserving RSS facilities are responsible for any damages that occur during their reserved time. Damages will be assessed and documented after the event by RSS Staff. Fees will be assessed to the organization based on the cost of facility repairs. Organizations may face further consequences for severe or intentional damage. Groups are held responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of misuse or misbehavior during their event. In addition to rental fees, labor charges will be assessed when reserved areas are left in an unclean or damaged condition. - Sound & Decorations Policy
Any sound amplification must be kept at a courteous level. Any amplified sound must be directed towards the center of campus when possible and be in accordance with all University sound policies. Any requests made by RSS Staff to reduce the volume of amplified sound must be followed.
Decorations for birthday parties or events may not hinder public safety or cause property damage. All decorations must be free-standing. The RSS will not permit the affixing of anything to the walls, floors, or ceiling. Please consult the RSS Staff for assistance and approval for the display of all materials. - Movie Policy
Any movie to be shown in any RSS Facilities must have prior approval from the Assistant Director of Facilities. All movies must be rented through Student Programming Council and approved through Student Services. - Food & Beverage Policy
- Food is permitted to be prepared at some RSS facility locations please check with RSS reservation staff. Outside food is permitted in the Student Recreation Center Alumni Lounge, Room 158, or Pool Observation Lounges. Arrangements for the use of these areas must be made during the reservation. Availability for food in the lower area of the Recreation Center rests solely with the Assistant Director of Facilities or his/her Designee.
- No alcohol may be brought into RSS venues from outside sources. Approval must be obtained in compliance with University guidelines. Approval from the RSS Director is also required.
- Any distribution of alcohol must gain approval from the Vice-Chancellor of Administration and Finance.
SIUC Alcohol Policy: https://policies.siu.edu/other-policies/chapter6/alcohol.php- Any distribution or consumption of alcohol at RSS facilities without prior approval is strictly prohibited. In the event distribution or consumption of alcohol is suspected by RSS Staff, SIUC Police will be contacted. - Additional changes to any reservation within 48 hours of the scheduled event may result in additional processing fees.
- Full payment must be paid in advance for all off-campus contracts at least 7 days prior to the event. This payment will include all building fees (opening and extension charges, room and equipment rental).
- Fundraising Policy
Fundraising at events at RSS facilities is permitted; however under strict guidelines. All University policies regarding fundraising must be followed.
SIUC Fundraising policy: https://policies.siu.edu/other-policies/chapter6/fundraising.php - Confirmed Reservations if scheduled by an off-campus customer are considered confirmed only after the contract has been signed and payment of anticipated expenses are paid. Campus departments must verify the budget purpose number they would like their event to be billed to along with the fiscal officer for the account. Contracts must be signed by the fiscal officer or designee with both names showing and returned to the Student Recreation Center Reservation Office MC 6717 at least two days prior to the event.
- Lost and Found
In the case of a lost item, please contact the Student Recreation Center Equipment desk at 618-453-1288 with a detailed description of the item in question. Unclaimed items will be stored at the RSS for 30 days. If an item is not claimed within the 30 day time period, valuable items (cell phones, mp3 players, jewelry, etc.) will be turned over to the SIUC Police Department, and non-valuable items (clothing, basketballs, shoes, etc.) will be donated to charity. The RSS is not held responsible for the damage or loss of any article left at RSS facilities prior to or following your reservation. - Event Equipment
The RSS has the following limited equipment available upon request:
- Tables, Chairs, and Stages
Equipment is subject to fees if returned damaged. Equipment may not be available at the time of the request. Any external vendor providing equipment or services to an event must be approved and provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance. For more information regarding insurance requirements, please contact SIUC Risk Management Department at http://siusystem.edu/risk-management/ - Animals
RSS welcomes Guide or Assistance animals utilized by guests with disabilities in accordance with ADA regulations. All other animals are prohibited at all RSS facilities.

RSS is committed to providing a fun, entertaining, exciting, and safe environment for all of our guests. Guests interfering with an event or offending other guests may be asked to leave the facility and may be subject to prosecution. Users are expected to be responsible, courteous, and safety-conscious. Users and/or organizations that disregard policies and guidelines may be asked to leave the facility and could experience a loss in recreational services.
- All participants should follow Recreational Sport and Services policies.
- Open flame is not allowed at any indoor or outdoor reserved event. This inlcudes bonfires and firepits.
- All members must have a risk and release waiver on file before taking part in any activities.
- It is advised to have a physical examination by a doctor before engaging in any type of physical activity.
- Participants are encouraged to drink water or other hydrating fluids before, during, and after the activity.
- Groups cannot use personal climbing equipment and must use the gear provided by RSS Base Camp.
- Participants must wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes to ensure safety.
- Hazardous jewelry, watches, and hanging clothing items must be removed.
- Any distribution of alcohol must gain approval from the Vice-Chancellor of Administration and Finance.

- Participants must abide by the decisions of RSS staff.
- Closed-toed athletic shoes are required.
- For safety reasons, open-toed shoes, sandals, dress shoes, or work boots are not permitted inside the weight rooms. Athletic shoes with non-marking outsoles and certain cross-training shoes are appropriate.
- Shirts are required. Unacceptable attire includes jeans, cut-off jeans, and clothing with metal rivets. Proper attire should be worn first and foremost to increase the quality of your workout.
- Any dependent age 15 or younger is not permitted to utilize ANY fitness equipment, including cardio equipment, Free-weight equipment, and selectorized equipment. All dependants must be accompanied by their legal guardian at all times while in the Student Recreation Center.
- Rack weights when finished. This is for the safety and courtesy of all other participants working out. The RSS staff and additional patrons do not want weights lying around the floor for them to trip on or have to pick up. Please take pride in the equipment in the weight rooms and rack your weights so as to keep the weight room clean, safe, and organized.
- Dropping/Slamming weights are prohibited.
- If weight is dropped it may roll, bounce, or break. All of these could cause injury to a fellow patron or damage exercise equipment that inevitably finds its way back to the students in the form of fees. The dropping of weights also causes extremely loud noises which can startle other participants who are focusing on their workout. Please be courteous of the weight equipment and of the other patrons using the facility.
- Please wipe down equipment and benches before and after use.
- Antibacterial spray and towels are provided throughout the weight rooms and facility in order to prevent the spread of bacteria. Please exhibit safety and concern for yourself and others by wiping down equipment. The RSS staff cleans all the equipment periodically throughout the day, but that should not be a safeguard or reason for patrons to neglect additional cleaning.
- Be polite and timely by allowing others to rotate sets during your rest. It is important for patrons to share equipment whenever possible and allow others to rotate while you are resting.
- Personal belongings should be kept at home or secured in a locker.
- During peak hours please limit your time on the cardiovascular equipment to 30 minutes.
- Use extreme caution when lifting weights to avoid potential injury to yourself or others.
- Spotters are strongly recommended while using free weights. RSS staff are not trained spotters and will not spot patrons.
- A current valid student/RSS ID card is required to enter the Student Recreation Center. Attempting to enter the facility using false identification or other means will result in card confiscation and/or suspension of facility access privileges.
- Food and drink are limited to the second floor unless supplied by RSS.
- Only beverages in plastic, re-sealable containers are permitted in the Student Recreation Center. Glass is not permitted in the Student Recreation Center
- Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times unless in the pool area.
- Flip flops and sandals are not permitted anywhere except for the pool area. No open-toed shoes permitted.
- Only non-marking shoes are permitted on all wood floors.
- Photographing/filming is not permitted in SRC locker rooms or bathroom areas.
- Pets are not permitted, except service animals providing assistance to individuals with disabilities.
- Injuries, accidents, or equipment failures must be immediately reported to RSS staff.
- Bicycles, skateboards, and roller blades are not permitted in the building.
- RSS is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Daily use lockers are available in the locker rooms.
- Participation is voluntary; exercise at your own risk.
- Participants are encouraged to consult a physician prior to beginning an exercise program.
- Members 17 years of age or younger CANNOT sponsor a guest to gain access to the Recreation Center.
- Members 15 years of age and younger must be with their parent or legal guardian at all times while visiting the Recreation Center
- Children 5 years of age and younger can access the Recreation Center FREE while accompanied by paid Member Parent or legal guardian.
- Participants are responsible for and should secure their own medical insurance.
- Users are expected to be responsible, courteous, and safety-conscious. Users who disregard facility policies and guidelines may be asked to leave the facility and could experience a loss in recreational services.
- We reserve the right to deny facility use to anyone who refuses to comply with the above policies.
- RSS staff has authority over facility conduct and use of equipment. Failure to comply with requests of the staff may result in the suspension of facility privileges.
- The use of recreation facilities is considered a privilege. Mature and respectful conduct is expected and required at all times. RSS personnel reserve the right to remove any member or guest from the area if he or she exhibits behavior that is believed to be unsafe or inappropriate and may have their privileges revoked.
- Personal private contract work, i.e., swimming/diving lessons, personal instruction, personal training, and/or fitness workouts of any kind, are not permitted at the Student Recreation Center. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of facility privileges and removal of the facility. Anyone interested in receiving private instruction should contact Member Services for proper registration procedures.
- Smoking Policy. All SIUC recreational facilities are non-smoking facilities. State law prohibits smoking on SIUC Campus Areas. Review SIUC smoking policy: https://smokefree.siu.edu
- Food and Drink Policy. Food and drink are permitted in designated areas only. Glass containers are prohibited at all times.
- Organized/Group Activities. Organized/group activities should be approved in advance by RSS Membership services or will be subject to the discretion of on-duty management. Use of facilities for paid instructional or coaching purposes is prohibited with the exception of recognized RSS programs.
- Personal Transportation Items. Bicycles, rollerblades, roller skates, and skateboards are prohibited within all facilities. Bike racks are available at all facilities. No bikes are permitted to be parked/locked on railings, signs, or benches.
- Cellular Phone Use. Patrons may use cellular phones but must adhere to restrictions regarding photography and videotaping. Violators of the phone use policy may be asked to leave the premises and may face further disciplinary actions.
- Security Issues. We encourage our members to bring only necessary items to our facilities. Leave valuables at home and be especially vigilant in providing for the security of belonging while using all RSS Facilities.
- ADA Compliance. Patrons requiring assistance or special consideration for use of Campus Recreation facilities should contact a staff member.
- A class must have a minimum of 3 individuals present in order for the class to be taught.
- For safety and to reduce disruptions, participants will not be allowed into class 10 minutes after the class start time.
- To ensure a pleasant experience for all participants, once a yoga class has begun, late arrivals will not be allowed to enter. Please make sure to arrive on time!
- Participants must be 16 years of age or older to attend group exercise classes.
- Appropriate group exercise clothing and footwear are required. Street clothing such as jeans, khakis, dress pants, or anything with zippers, buttons, or belts is prohibited.
- No gum, food, or beverages are allowed, except water in a sealable container.
- In order to ensure safety to all participants, class size is limited depending on the class type and equipment required.
- Only authorized staff are trained to use the sound systems in the studios and on Court 4.
- Campus recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please secure your belonging in a locker prior to exercising.
- Participant safety is very important to the recreation department. Participants are responsible to monitor their own workout intensity and take water breaks when needed.
- To help on the battle against diseases, participants are responsible to clean off their mat/equipment when class ends.
- Recreational Sports and Services reserves the right to cancel or change the group exercise classes at any time based on instructor availability or class participation. Hours may vary during holidays, breaks, exams, and summer sessions. The instructor reserves the right to ask a participant to leave if policies are not followed.
- Studios are scheduled with group fitness activities, club sport practices, student organizations, and other rental groups. Patrons may utilize the Studios when not reserved by another group. There is a 2-hour maximum usage per group, per day. For room reservations contact Member Services at 618-453-1277.
- Equipment located in the studio is only available when authorized by RSS Staff. All equipment must remain in the designated room.
- Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times. Only non-marking shoes are permitted in the room (s). Flip-flops and sandals are not permitted. No open-toed shoes or high-heeled shoes permitted.
- The in-house audio system is not available for use. Any sound amplification must be kept at a courteous level. Any amplified sound must be directed towards the room and be in accordance with all University sound policies. Any requests made by RSS Staff to reduce the volume of amplified sound must be followed.
- Activities that could damage the floor, mirrors, windows, or ceiling tiles are strictly prohibited.
- Do not cover/block access points to the studio.
- Patrons should not lean or put hands on the mirrors.
- The use of recreation facilities is considered a privilege. Mature and respectful conduct is expected and required at all times. RSS personnel reserve the right to remove any member or guest from the area if he or she exhibits behavior that is believed to be unsafe or inappropriate and may have their privileges revoked.
- Personal private contract work, i.e., swimming/diving lessons, personal instruction, personal training, and/or fitness workouts of any kind, are not permitted at the Student Recreation Center. Anyone interested in receiving private instruction should contact Member Services for proper registration procedures.
- Headphones must be used while listening to personal music throughout the Facility.
- Dance and Group Fitness Studios are the ONLY rooms that Personal music is permitted.
- Valid State ID must be presented to purchase a guest pass.
- Guests must be accompanied by an SIUC Student or SRC member 18 years of age or older.
- Day Guest Pass: $10 for ages 16 and up, $3 for ages 5 - 15, free for ages 5 and under
- Guests 17 years of age and under are permitted in the SRC ONLY when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The guardian must be with them at all times.
- Children 5 years of age and younger are free.
- Sponsors of guests are responsible and liable for the actions of their guests while using Facilities/Equipment or Programs.
- The Martial Arts Studio is scheduled for club sports practices, group fitness classes, student organizations and other rental groups.
- Members can ask for access to the Martial Arts Studio, when not reserved by another group, at the reception desk on the first-floor but must have a Valid Student ID or RSS Member ID.
- For safety and injury prevention RSS requires the use of wrap or gloves when using the speed bags, and wrap and gloves when using the heavy bags.
- Use of the mat requires adherence to the following rules:
- No street shoes. Must use clean wrestling shoes or no footwear.
- Shorts and shirts required.
- Individuals with skin infections, open lesions, or open cuts are not permitted on the mat.
- If there is blood on the mat, the activity must stop. Notify an RSS staff member for proper clean-up.
- Those individuals participating in the combat-type activity are strongly recommended to use protective equipment such as head protection, mouthpiece, cup (men), and chest protector (women).

- Reservation requests must be completed at least 14 calendar days prior to the day of the event or by special request approval by the Assistant Director of Facilities.
- Student groups must provide a final participant count and schedule a group contact meeting no later than 7 calendar days prior to the event. Failure to schedule a meeting 7 calendar days prior to the event will result in the cancellation of the program.
- Groups of more than 60 participants will need special approval. Authorization to approve large groups rests with the Assistant Director of Facilities or his/her designee.
- Student Groups with 50 or more persons must have prior written approval from the Department of Public Safety submitted to the Reservation Department 7 calendar days prior to the event. Failure to follow this procedure will result in the cancellation of the event.
- Open flame is not allowed at any indoor or outdoor reserved event. This includes bonfires and firepits.
- Cancellation Policy
Failure to notify the RSS of event cancellations may result in a loss of building privileges and/or the assessment of appropriate fees. Cancellations must be made by calling 618-453-1278 or by emailing schedule@siu.edu. The email must be sent from the individual listed as the contact. Business hours are from 8:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To receive a full refund, an event must be canceled 14 calendar days prior to the event. To receive a 50% refund, an event must be canceled 7 calendar days prior to the event. Groups that do not show for a confirmed event will incur 100% of the rental costs. - Recreational Sports and Services will staff each private event with an appropriate number of participants. Special staffing, specifically game officials, must be arranged when making the reservation. Extra fees for staff may vary depending on how many staff members are needed for your specific group (number of participants).
- Student groups must have approval from Student Development and must be submitted to the Student Recreation Center Reservation Department 14 calendar days prior to the event.
- Outside groups scheduling an event with the Student Recreation Center must provide a certificate of insurance naming the Board of Trustees as an additional insured. Please visit this site for further details: http://siusystem.edu/risk-management/
- Damages
Organizations reserving RSS facilities are responsible for any damages that occur during their reserved time. Damages will be assessed and documented after the event by RSS Staff. Fees will be assessed to the organization based on the cost of facility repairs. Organizations may face further consequences for severe or intentional damage. Groups are held responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of misuse or misbehavior during their event. In addition to rental fees, labor charges will be assessed when reserved areas are left in an unclean or damaged condition. - Sound & Decorations Policy
Any sound amplification must be kept at a courteous level. Any amplified sound must be directed towards the center of campus when possible and be in accordance with all University sound policies. Any requests made by RSS Staff to reduce the volume of amplified sound must be followed.
Decorations for birthday parties or events may not hinder public safety or cause property damage. All decorations must be free-standing. The RSS will not permit the affixing of anything to the walls, floors, or ceiling. Please consult the RSS Staff for assistance and approval for the display of all materials. - Movie Policy
Any movie to be shown in any RSS Facilities must have prior approval from the Assistant Director of Facilities. All movies must be rented through Student Programming Council and approved through Student Services. - Food & Beverage Policy
- Food is permitted to be prepared at some RSS facility locations please check with RSS reservation staff. Outside food is permitted in the Student Recreation Center Alumni Lounge, Room 158, or Pool Observation Lounges. Arrangements for the use of these areas must be made during the reservation. Availability for food in the lower area of the Recreation Center rests solely with the Assistant Director of Facilities or his/her Designee.
- No alcohol may be brought into RSS venues from outside sources. Approval must be obtained in compliance with University guidelines. Approval from the RSS Director is also required.
- Any distribution of alcohol must gain approval from the Vice-Chancellor of Student affairs.
- Any distribution or consumption of alcohol at RSS facilities without prior approval is strictly prohibited. In the event distribution or consumption of alcohol is suspected by RSS Staff, SIUC Police will be contacted. - Additional changes to any reservation within 48 hours of the scheduled event may result in additional processing fees.
- Full payment must be paid in advance for all off-campus contracts at least 7 days prior to the event. This payment will include all building fees (opening and extension charges, room and equipment rental).
- Fundraising Policy
Fundraising at events at RSS facilities is permitted; however under strict guidelines. All University policies regarding fundraising must be followed. - Confirmed Reservations if scheduled by an off-campus customer are considered confirmed only after the contract has been signed and payment of anticipated expenses are paid. Campus departments must verify the budget purpose number they would like their event to be billed to along with the fiscal officer for the account. Contracts must be signed by the fiscal officer or designee with both names showing and returned to the Student Recreation Center Reservation Office MC 6717 at least two days prior to the event.
- Lost and Found
In the case of a lost item, please contact the Student Recreation Center Equipment desk at 618-453-1288 with a detailed description of the item in question. Unclaimed items will be stored at the RSS for 30 days. If an item is not claimed within the 30-day time period, valuable items (cell phones, mp3 players, jewelry, etc.) will be turned over to the SIUC Police Department, and non-valuable items (clothing, basketballs, shoes, etc.) will be donated to charity. The RSS is not held responsible for the damage or loss of any article left at RSS facilities prior to or following your reservation. - Event Equipment

Equipment is subject to fees if returned damaged. Equipment may not be available at the time of the request. Any external vendor providing equipment or services to an event must be approved and provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance. RSS welcomes Guide or Assistance animals utilized by guests with disabilities in accordance with ADA regulations. All other animals are prohibited at all RSS facilities. - Guest Conduct
RSS is committed to providing a fun, entertaining, exciting, and safe environment for all of our guests. Guests interfering with an event or offending other guests may be asked to leave the facility and may be subject to prosecution. Users are expected to be responsible, courteous, and safety-conscious. Users and/or organizations that disregard policies and guidelines may be asked to leave the facility and could experience a loss in recreational services.
- Personal. Personal photography and videotaping are permitted in RSS facilities with the exception of restrooms and locker rooms. Personal photography and videotaping is defined as media of friends/family obtained informally for personal/private use. Personal photography used for commercial purposes is not permitted.
- Taking photos or videos of individuals without their consent is prohibited and is cause for immediate removal from RSS facilities and possible suspension from RSS facilities.
- Academic. Academic photography and videotaping are permitted in RSS facilities with the exception of restrooms and locker rooms. Academic photography and videotaping is defined as media obtained and/or reproduced for academic purposes including class projects, University promotions, and information. See Authorization Procedures below.
- Media. Media is permitted in most RSS facilities. Media access is defined as media obtained and/or reproduced for use by a media outlet. Proper usage includes published materials produced by the media outlet. See Authorization Procedures below.

- Refunds will not be considered unless there is a documented medical reason(s). A physician’s note is required for any refund based on a Medical condition. Refund Request Form.
- All refunds (except in the event of a class/program cancellation) will be assessed a $15 processing fee.
- Refunds for unused portions of class/program fees or membership/s fees will not be provided unless a documented and approved medical condition exists.
- Refunds will only be considered for those requests of more than $20. Anything under $20 will not be refunded.
- Refunds will only be issued to the individual who made the original purchase.
- Any credit applied to an account as a result of a refund must be used within one calendar year from the date of refund.
- Refunds for memberships will be subject to a monthly pro-rating from the date of purchase based on the date of documented medical reason(s).
- Memberships are non-transferable.
- Membership cancellation: Recurring Deduction membership cancellations must be received by the 1st of the current month to cancel for the next billing cycle. An email requesting to cancel must be received at reccntr@siu.edu or a Cancellation Request Form must be completed and turned in at the Recreational Sports and Services’ Member Services Center by the 1st of the month. Any requests to cancel this membership after the 1st of the month will be charged at least one more deduction.
- Membership cancellation: SIU Payroll Deduction membership cancellations can be requested at any time. An email requesting to cancel must be received at reccntr@siu.edu or a Cancellation Request Form must be completed and turned in at the Recreational Sports and Services’ Member Services Center/ Membership Coordinator. Depending on the time of the request you may see at least one more deduction.
- Membership cancellation: All other membership cancellations can be requested at any time. An email requesting to cancel must be received at reccntr@siu.edu or a Cancellation Request Form must be completed and turned in at the Recreational Sports and Services’ Member Services Center/ Membership Coordinator.
- To withdraw from a class/program, an email requesting a refund must be received at reccntr@siu.edu, or a Refund Request Form must be completed and turned in at the Recreational Sports and Services’ Member Services Center prior to the second class meeting. Refunds will not be given after this time unless there is a documented medical reason(s).

- Headphones must be used while listening to personal music throughout the Facility.
- Dance and group fitness studios are the ONLY rooms that Personal music is permitted. Any sound amplification must be kept at a courteous level. Any requests made by RSS Staff to reduce the volume of amplified sound must be followed.

- Deter theft and vandalism and assist in the identification of individuals who commit damage to Recreational Sport and Services (RSS) property.
- Assist law enforcement agencies with regard to the investigation of any crime that may be depicted.
- Assist in the daily operations of the Recreational Sport and Services (RSS).
- Do not bring personal items (e.g., cell phone, keys, wallet, etc.) onto the pool deck
- Groups/patrons may only use flotation devices provided by the Student Recreation Center
- Horse playing, fighting, and running are NOT permitted on the pool deck or in the pool area
- Only swimwear is permitted in the pool. T-shirts, shorts, or cut-offs are not permitted in the pool
- Groups with more than 10 participants in the pool at once will be charged for additional lifeguards (For every 10 additional participants, an extra lifeguard is required)
- Groups with children 15 years and younger are required to have one chaperone per every 5 participants in the pool
- Children 10 years of age and younger require 2 lifeguards. There should be 1 chaperone who is 16 years of age or older for every 3 participants in the pool
- Listen to lifeguards' instructions to ensure a safe visit.
- Use of the sauna is restricted to those ages 16 and older.
- Saunas are public spaces; appropriate clothing is required at all times.
- Constrictive or excessive clothing should not be worn.
- Exercising in the sauna is not permitted.
- Please remove your jewelry to avoid burns.
- To promote hygiene, patrons should sit on a towel or stand in the sauna.
- Pregnant women, elderly persons, and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes, or high or low blood pressure should not use the sauna without prior medical consultation and the permission of their doctor.
- The indoor track is for runners, joggers, and walkers.
- Appropriate sports shoes must be worn. Spikes, turf shoes, and cleats are prohibited on the upper track.
- Walkers must use the outside lane. Faster participants must use inside lanes.
- Directional signs will specify clockwise or counter-clockwise running
- Stretching areas are located on the east entrance to the track and upper track area.
- Please follow RUN/JOG/WALK lane assignments.
