- Alumni Lounge
About: The Alumni Lounge is a multi-use carpeted room located on the Upper Level of the Rec. It can be used for banquets, meetings, ceremonies, birthday parties, and many other events.
This room can accommodate up to 120 people for an event with tables.
For a ceremony-type event with chairs only, it can fit approximately 200 people.

Open during Rec Center building hours.
Who can use this space:
Anyone can rent or reserve this space. Not available for drop-in use, reservations are required.

Add-ons can be added to this room such as a small stage, podium, speaker, or mic for an additional cost with a reservation.
Food is allowed in this room but must be from the SIU-approved caterer list or meet RSS small food policy guidelines.

- Bouldering Cave
About: The Bouldering Cave is located on the lower level of the SRC underneath the central staircase. The Bouldering Cave includes overhangs from 45-90°, so getting the hang of climbing upside down is easy!
Hours: The Bouldering Cave is open during normal Rec hours.
Policies:
- Climbers may not boulder past the designated line on the climbing wall. Individuals bouldering should have spotters.
- Individuals are required to wear closed-toed shoes while climbing. Climbing shoes are available for rent at the equipment desk.
- Climbers must be at least 12 years old to utilize the Bouldering Cave.
- Cardio Studio
About: The Cardio Studio is located on the lower level of the SRC across from Member Services. This room features an array of cardio equipment including treadmills, stair climbers, rowing machines, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and more.
- Climbing Wall
About: The routes on our 28-foot-high indoor rock climbing wall are reset every semester. It comprises 3 simulated faces including slab, overhanging, and vertical top surfaces. You don’t have to be familiar with rock climbing or have your own equipment to use the Climbing Wall.
Hours:
Open Monday - Friday 4:30 pm-7:00 pm. The Climbing Wall closes during Holiday and Break Hours. Check our Hours for updates.
Who can use this space:
The Climbing Wall is open to anyone ages 6+ who weigh at least 45lbs.

RSS Policy Highlights:
- Individuals are required to wear closed-toed shoes while climbing. Climbing shoes are available for rent at the equipment desk.
- Climbers cannot utilize their own hardware. Individuals wishing to belay in the facility may utilize aperture style or assisted locking devices provided by Touch of Nature's Base Camp. These may be checked out at the equipment desk.
- Climbers may not boulder past the designated line on the climbing wall. Individuals bouldering should have spotters.
- East Gymnasium
About: The East Gymnasium is home to Multi-Sport Courts 4, 5, 6, and 7. Sport Courts 4, 5, and 6 are wood surfaced and are intended for multiple activities including basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. Sport Court 7 has Mondo flooring and is often used for dodgeball, cricket, or soccer. Upper and Lower walking and running tracks are also located on each level in the East Gymnasium. Our East Gym also features 153 national flags to recognize students of each of these countries that have attended SIU Carbondale. These make for a great view during your laps around the Upper Track!
Who can use this space:
All four multi-sport courts and lower track are available to anyone for rental or reservation.

- Only closed-toed athletic shoes with non-marking soles are permitted.
- Hanging on the rim is not permitted. Dunking is not permitted
- Headphones must be used while listening to personal music throughout the facility. Any personal sound amplification is prohibited unless in the Group Fitness Studio.
- East & West Weight Rooms
About: The SRC features two main weight rooms located on opposite ends of our facility. The West Weight Room features mainly free weights, including several squat racks, deadlift platforms, dumbbells, and various other equipment, in addition to 3 cable machines. The East Weight Room is comprised of selectorized and plate-loaded strength equipment and 4 cable machines.
RSS Policy Highlights:
- Please take pride in the equipment in the weight rooms and rack your weights so as to keep the weight room clean, safe, and organized.
- Dropping/Slamming weights is prohibited.
- Please wipe down equipment and benches before and after use. Antibacterial spray and towels are provided throughout the weight rooms and facility in order to prevent the spread of bacteria.
- Spotters are strongly recommended while using free weights. RSS staff are not trained spotters and will not spot patrons.
- Group Fitness Studio
About: The Group Fitness Studio, located on the lower level of the SRC, is home to most of our Group Fitness Classes. It is the largest of our studios and features a sound system for classes with audio.
Who can use this space:
Anyone can rent or reserve this space. Not available for drop-in use, reservations are required.

- There is a 2-hour maximum reserved usage per group, per day.
- The in-house audio system is not available for use. Any sound amplification must be kept at a courteous level.
- Martial Arts Studio
About: Sport clubs, group fitness classes, RSOs, and other rental groups use this space for its mat surfaces, speed bags, 4 heavy bags, 3 BoxerBobs, and wall-mounted boxing targets.
Who can use this space:
Anyone can rent or reserve this space.

RSS Policy Highlights:
- Members can ask for access to the Martial Arts Studio, when not reserved by another group, at the reception desk on the first floor but must have a Valid Student ID or RSS Member ID.
- No street shoes. Must use clean wrestling shoes or no footwear.
- Shorts and shirts required.
- Individuals with skin infections, open lesions, or open cuts are not permitted on the mat.
- If there is blood on the mat, the activity must stop. Notify an RSS staff member for proper clean-up.
- Those individuals participating in the combat-type activity are strongly recommended to use protective equipment such as head protection, mouthpiece, cup (men), and chest protector (women).
- Pool Lounge
About: The Pool Lounge is a multi-use carpeted room located on the Upper Level of the Rec. It is intended for meeting space.
This room can accommodate up to 20 people.
Who can use this space:
Anyone can rent or reserve this space. It is available for drop-in use but will need to be unlocked by RSS staff. Please visit the reception desk for assistance.

- Shea Natatorium
About: Shea Natatorium is home to an Olympic-size swimming pool (25 yards in 50 meters) with 1, 3, and 5-meter diving boards. Adult and Youth Swim Lessons, Lifeguarding Certification Classes, Try Scuba, and Intramural Canoe Battleship are all offered here in Shea Natatorium in addition to many other aquatic programming opportunities.
Who can use this space:
Open Swim Hours occur several times per day. View our Hours for current semester/break Pool Hours.
This space is also available for anyone to rent or reserve.

RSS Policy Highlights:
- Do not bring personal items (e.g., cell phone, keys, wallet, etc.) onto the pool deck
- Groups/patrons may only use flotation devices provided by the Student Recreation Center
- Horse playing, fighting, and running are NOT permitted on the pool deck or in the pool area
- Only swimwear is permitted in the pool. T-shirts, shorts, or cut-offs are not permitted in the pool
- Multi-Purpose Studios
About: 5 smaller-sized studios are located on the West end of our building along the hallway bordering the West Gymnasium. One of these studios is a dedicated Cycle Studio where all Cycle Classes are held. The Mat Studio features a matted floor and walls and one heavy bag. TRX training equipment is located in the TRX Studio and is sometimes used for Group Fitness Classes. Studio 4 and Studio 5 (pictured above) are more spacious training rooms available for drop-in use that feature mirrored walls and hardwood flooring.
Who can use this space:
These spaces are not available for rental or reservation. All studios, with the exception of Studio 5, are available for drop-in use when a Group Fitness Class is not in session.
- West Gymnasium
About: The West Gymnasium is home to two turf courts and Multi-Sport Court 3. Typically, three pickleball nets are set up on Multi-Sport Court 3 for open play. Official Pickleball Open Play Hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 3 - 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Take a moment to read about the history of official SIU logos through the years displayed on the East wall between games!
Who can use this space:
All three courts are available to anyone for rental or reservation.
