We are so happy you are considering the Student Recreation Center as your workout place or have already decided to join us! We are excited to introduce you to us – The Student Recreation Center. Fondly known as The REC: A place for everyone to come and
R ecreate  E nergize  C onnect!

The SIU Student Recreation Center isn’t like other facilities where ellipticals and barbells are the only things offered in terms of your personal well-being. We offer those in abundance as well as many other options to customize your membership experience.

We take pride in having space in our facility to host a variety of services and areas where you can focus on becoming a happier, healthier person. With your membership, you have the option and access to utilize our Group fitness classes which offer the competitive edge you may be looking for in a workout. Classes range from yoga, cycling, Zumba, and many more.

Access to our Olympic size swimming pool is included in your membership as well. Our short course is 25 yards and perfect for lap swimming. Our long course is 50 meters and is available on certain days of the week. The pool also has 1, 3, and 5-meter diving boards. We host programs all through the semester for you and your friends. Come try slacklining, take our leap of faith off of the 5-meter platform, play water polo, try your hand at the live-action battleship, join the Saluki Masters Swim Club, become an American Red Cross Lifeguard or Lifeguard Instructor, learn how to Scuba Dive, or just come for a leisurely float. The SIUC Pool has the activity for you.

A membership at the Student Recreation Center also includes access to our racquetball, squash, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball courts, where pick-up games and organized competition are always taking place.

When you purchase a membership at the Student Recreation Center, you are getting more than just a place to exercise. You are also getting a whole community of people like you, people who want a place that they can call their own and find every convenience all in one place.

Below are options to help get you acquainted with the Rec. Also, please note that you can purchase a 5 or 10 visit pass to become familiar with the Rec before purchasing something more long-term. Click here for more information on those visit passes.

New Member Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Parking at the Rec

When you arrive at the Rec you might wonder, where do I park? We have 3 convenient options for you:

If you are SIU Faculty/Staff or an SIU student, you can purchase a parking decal at Parking Services on campus and that will give you access to the decal portion of our parking lot.

If you are a non-SIU individual, you can purchase a Rec Center parking pass at our Member Services window. They run from Sept – August each year and are prorated based on when you purchase the pass. We have a designated portion of our parking lot for these parking pass holders only.

The last option is that you can pay by the hour/day by paying at the kiosk located on the sidewalk as you walk toward the Rec from the parking lot. You simply park in a numbered spot and then enter that spot at the kiosk and pay for the duration of time you would like.
